Dakota Internet's Acceptable Use Policy
Dakota Internet Services is dedicated to providing fast and reliable Internet to it’s customers. The Acceptable Use Policy is designed to protect our users from irresponsible or illegal activities. This document provides some general information to familiarize users with the policy and to help users understand what is considered acceptable use. To help maintain a stable and enjoyable Internet experience, all of our users must follow the guidelines listed below.
Email
Spamming:
Unsolicited commercial e-mail is defined as any commercial e-mail message or
multiple messages sent to one or more recipients that is not specifically
requested by the recipient(s). Sending unsolicited commercial e-mail is
prohibited by the Acceptable Use Policy. Operation of a mail server that allows
unsolicited e-mail messages to pass through it (an open relay) is also
prohibited on our networks.
Impersonation:
Attempting to impersonate any person, including false IP addresses, domains, or
other false information, is prohibited.
Dial-Up Use
Excessive Idling:
Excessive idling on a dial-up connection through Dakota Internet is
prohibited. Excessive Idling is defined as any connection which maintains no
activity or data transfer for a period of 3 hours or more. Any connection left
idle for more than 3 hours will be disconnected and will have to redial and
reconnect to initiate any new data transfer.
Account Sharing:
The use of a dial-up account on more than one computer at the same time is
prohibited. Our system will only allow one simultaneous login for each dial-up
account. The use of a single dial-up account on multiple computers at
different times is permitted. Users who wish to share
a connection on multiple computers at the same time should look into purchasing
a router or other connection sharing device from Dakota Internet Services.
General
Hacking/Cracking:
Any activity that affects the ability of others to use local or outside systems
is deemed deviant hacking. Any deviant hack attempt from a Dakota Internet
Services account is prohibited. This also includes any attempt to gain access to
another users account or data without permission.
Privacy Policies:
The services provided by Dakota Internet Services may only be used for lawful
purposes. Materials received and/or transmissions made in violation of any
local, state or Federal regulation(s) are prohibited. This prohibition includes
but is not limited to the illegal use of copyrighted material, material legally
judged to be threatening or obscene or material protected by trade secret.
Dakota Internet Services does not normally monitor the activity of any specific
account, but reserves the right to monitor an account’s activity if requested to
by legal authorities. Dakota Internet Services will cooperate with investigative
inquiries posed by legal authorities. Dakota Internet Services reserves the
right to examine system logs, accounting records, and other customer information
to resolve system problems. Dakota Internet Services also reserves the right to
access an account’s e-mailbox to resolve problems with the mail system.
Reserved Rights:
Dakota Internet reserves the right to refuse service to any user (either
current, or new) for any reason. This includes disconnection of services without
notice due to failure to comply with the rules of this acceptable use policy or
general failure to cooperate with Dakota Internet policies.
This document is a general overview of the Dakota Internet Services Acceptable Use Policy. This document is subject to change and addendum as seen fit by Dakota Internet Services staff. This document is intended to be a general guide to users and does not specifically cover all prohibited activities, but more generalizes a few areas of activities deemed inappropriate. Common sense and good judgment are always the best tools for recognizing further activities that are inappropriate or prohibited. If a user violates the guidelines mentioned in this policy or participates in other malicious or illegal activities online, the user's account will be suspended or closed immediately and may incur reconnection charges if the account is reactivated.
